What is a Domain Name?
Basically, a domain name is the unique name of your web site It's what people need to type into their browser to visit your web site
Domain names will usually look something like this: www.yourcompany.com. When purchasing a domain name, there are two elements of the name within your control. In the previous example -
-
"yourcompany" - which may be your company name or any word or combination of words (without spaces), and
-
".com" - which may be ".net", ".com.au", "co.uk", or some other suffix. This suffix sometimes hint's at the nature of what the web site represents and/or where it is from. (ie. .com = company, .org = organisation, .com.au = company in Australia etc.)
With your chosen domain name, you can do two things - for example, we have www.fourcm.net - with it, we can:
-
We can have a web site address of www.fourcm.net
-
We can have e-mail addresses ending with '@fourcm.net', such as: info@fourcm.net, prayer@fourcm.net, jane@fourcm.net, or fred.bloggs@fourcm.net
